With profound gratitude to the Almighty God, for His blessings and guidance, the Doctoral Program in Law, Faculty of Law, Universitas Sebelas Maret is honoured to convene the 3rd International Conference on “Law and Economics to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals in Democratic and Non-Democratic Regimes.” This international conference serves as an academic forum that brings together scholars, researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and graduate students to deliberate on crucial issues concerning the interconnection between law and economics in the pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The presence of this conference is expected to provide substantial intellectual contributions to the development of law and economics, particularly within the dynamics of both democratic and non-democratic regimes.

In the current global landscape, the SDGs have become a collective agenda that requires the active participation of all actors and stakeholders. Law and economics are inseparable in realising sustainable development objectives, as they function not only as instruments but also as normative frameworks that shape public policies, regulate resource distribution, and establish just governance. Therefore, this conference provides an academic space that accommodates diverse perspectives across disciplines and political regimes, thereby generating more comprehensive and solution-oriented insights.

This international conference raises a strategic issue concerning how law and economics can synergise to strengthen the achievement of the SDGs within states that embrace different forms of government. The distinct characteristics of political regimes present both challenges and opportunities in the implementation of sustainable development policies. Accordingly, this forum is expected to become a productive academic dialogue, a platform for the exchange of innovative ideas, the presentation of cutting-edge research, and the formulation of policy recommendations that enrich the discourse on law and economics at both national and international levels.

Finally, we extend our highest appreciation to all keynote speakers, participants, committees, and all parties who have supported the successful organisation of this conference. It is our sincere hope that this event will not only serve as a medium for the exchange of knowledge but also strengthen international academic networks, enrich the body of scholarship, and make a tangible contribution to the advancement of law and economics in the pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals.
