Abstract

This paper discussed the effect of a health insurance program, New Cooperative Medical Scheme (NCMS) from China, on the elderly’s reported health status. Using a Difference-in-Difference strategy, this paper finds evidence that the program has strengthened elders’ daily activity livings and improved access to medical facility for those participants to secure on-time help. Issues regarding adverse selection is also discussed.
