Abstract

Absorption bandwidth of conventional Micro-Perforated Panel backed by air cavity is limited around 1 octave bands particularly for pore diameter close to 1 mm. Compared with porous material, the absorption bandwidth is relatively narrow. Hence, its applications may become limited. This research shows that multiple-peaks as result of the use of the non-homogenous perforation pattern are useful in extending the bsorption bandwidth. An analytical model is used to predict the absorption coefficient while experimental results are provided for validation
