Abstract

Stress is a mental illness that affects everyone at different times and in different situations. The stress of teachers in the teaching profession is a common issue, yet it is not adequately addressed. The aim of this study is to locate the sources of stress among teachers and to explore the techniques of stress management. Besides, the study has also gone through the case studies related to “ Stress” in detail. The study is descriptive in nature and used a simple random sampling technique for selecting the sample of the colleges and a purposive sample for college teachers. The investigator used a self-structured questionnaire and a case study proforma to collect data. Quantitative statistics like percentage, graph etc. are used to interpret the collected data. The study found that the college teachers experience different sources of stress like excessive work load, lack of support, appreciation, tight deadlines, work family conflict. The case studies have also revealed that teachers face different types of stress impacting their quality of life and work. The study also focuses on different techniques of stress management of which practicing mindfulness appeared to be more effective while dealing with work life stress. The paper also recommends various stress management activities which can be integrated in the institutional culture.
