- Abstract
Emotional intelligence is the capacity of a person to identify and manage our emotions in an optimistic manner to control and regulate stress. The skill of managing emotions varies from one individual to the other. This study examines the role of emotional intelligence in managing stress at work place among nurses in private hospitals. The nurses in health sector have been chosen hence the nurses in private hospitals are facing the issues on role overload, role ambiguity, shift works, financial constraints and patient’s attitude. The study moves forward with the findings of Daniel Goleman’s theory (1995) on emotional intelligence. The purpose of the study is to identify the emotional intelligence level among employees, to measure the stress level of employees at work place and to analyze the relationship between work stress and emotional intelligence in healthcare employees in private hospital. For the necessity of data collection the researcher has selected a total of five private hospitals which is located in Kottayam.
