- Abstract
The digital age has ushered in transformative changes across various sectors, and the realm of academic research is of no exception. The advent of digital technologies has revolutionized how scholars access, engage with, and interpret archival materials. Traditional print archives, once the cornerstone of scholarly research, are now complemented—and in some cases supplanted—by digital archives. These digital platforms offer unprecedented accessibility, enabling researchers to access materials remotely and efficiently. However, this shift from ‘print’ to ‘digital’ raises critical questions about the nature of archival engagement, the authenticity of materials, and the methodologies employed in research. Through a comparative approach and conceptual comparison, this paper explores the relative advantages, limitations and implications of digital and print archives, examining how each medium influences research practices and scholarly interpretation. It argues in favor of adopting adaptive archive-usage strategies to optimize learning, research output and scholarly engagement.
