- Abstract
This study explores the role of export strategies in overcoming the middle-income trap, focusing on the experiences of Asian economies that have successfully transitioned to high-income status. Using a comparative analysis of seven countries - Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, China, Indonesia, and Thailand - this research examines the export structures and growth patterns that have enabled some nations to escape the middle-income trap while others remain ensnared. The findings highlight the importance of high-tech manufacturing, export diversification, and participation in global value chains as key drivers of economic advancement. Additionally, the study emphasizes the growing significance of digital and high-value service exports in the era of globalization. Drawing on these insights, the paper offers strategic recommendations for developing economies, such as Vietnam, to enhance their export models, diversify their markets, and pursue deeper integration into global trade networks. The results provide a roadmap for nations seeking to accelerate their path to high-income status and achieve sustainable economic growth.
