Abstract

Approaches to cultures involved in translation are generally divided into domestication (TL culture-orientation) and foreignization (SL culture-orientation). Domestication aims to minimize the strangeness of the foreign text, while foreignization aims to preserve the exotic flavor of the source language and culture. The analysis in this paper leads to the conclusion that both strategies are not contradictory but supplementary to each other. With more and more intercultural communication, both strategies will work side by side.
