Abstract

The Surabaya Container Terminal (TKS) at Tanjung Perak Port Terminal is the largest and busiest container terminal in Indonesia and the third largest terminal in Indonesia by container load volume. Leaders at TKS are responsible for ensuring that the port’s trading giant remains afloat and operates optimally. Based on their position, leading and leader (supervising subordinates). Striking a balance between these two roles is often associated with a lot of immense challenges and stress. Port leadership works in a complex and ever-changing environment, handling competing demands from customers, board members, stakeholders, staff, and in some cases, one or more overseeing government authorities. The roles and functions of port leaders and port executive management teams reflect the port governance structure. This research focuses on formal leadership development programs and evaluates their effectiveness in improving as leaders. The specific purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of development programs in improving MM leadership; and to explore the subordinates’ acceptance of leadership. This study is a descriptive study that uses a probability random sampling technique because the results are intended to be generalized to the entire population. This method is described as one of the best techniques for collecting data because it strongly reflects the population of concern. The research data was collected through a self-administered structured questionnaire., the results of this study produce research outputs in the form of; two reputable national journals and one reputable international journal WOS or Scopus.
