Abstract

Prevention of marine pollution is an effort that must be done as early as possible to avoid or reduce marine pollution because marine pollution can have an impact on the lives of living things in the sea and around it. Many things can cause marine pollution, one of which is the operation of the port and the activities of the community living around the port. This study aims to determine the causes of marine pollution due to activities at the port and how to properly overcome it based on Regulation of the Minister of Transportation Number: PM. 58 of 2013 concerning Pollution Control in Waters and Ports which was amended by PM. 39 of 2021using descriptive methods. This research was conducted at the port of Pare-Pare because it is the main port in South Sulawesi, it is planned that this port will become an international port because it is located in the Gerbang Emas Special Economic Zone (KEK). The port of Pare-Pare has 3 (three) areas, namely the passenger port, the cargo port and the people’s port. And there is a special port for oil and gas, so that many large ships dock at this port. Based on the results of observations, it is known that port activities that can cause marine pollution are refueling and port users who litter in the port environment.
