Abstract

The Himalayan region, as one of the most complex geographical and cultural convergence zones in the world, is also a region that many scholars want to study and are interested in. It is not only renowned for its unique natural landscapes but also has given birth to numerous cross-border ethnic groups and diverse cultural forms. This study adopts a combined approach of geospatial analysis, anthropological investigation and basic economic data analysis to explore the geographical distribution characteristics of cross-border ethnic groups in this region. The research reveals that the spatial distribution of cross-border ethnic groups is highly correlated with altitude zonality and ecological adaptability. Ethnic groups such as Tibetans and Sherpas have formed settlement patterns based on valleys and mid-altitude areas along the China-Nepal and China-India borders. Elements such as language communication, religious integration, and cross-border marriage have significantly promoted the process of cultural adaptation. This study provides a new perspective for understanding the integration of multiculturalism in the Himalayan region. It also highlights the limitations, such as the timeliness of data and regional differences, offering a direction reference for subsequent interdisciplinary research.
