Abstract

This paper examines both the internal and external factors that influence test anxiety as it unfolds in the context of contemporary high-pressure times. The discussion begins with internal dimensions such as self-efficacy, self-confidence, and time management, and then shifts to external factors of parental pressure and peer comparison. The article analyzes internal mechanisms in which low self-efficacy triggers anxiety through negative perceptions of competence, and low self-esteem individuals are more likely to trigger avoidance behaviors; good time management can alleviate anxiety better than mere self-regulation of emotions. In terms of external factors, rigid and irrational parental behavior can further deepen students’ anxiety or indirectly exacerbate it through psychological control and the provision of inadequate learning resources, and peer-to-peer triggered effects can lead to low self-esteem, social fears, and thus increased rejection of exams. Finally, the article calls for the mental health of adolescent students to be reached through targeted training, such as efficacy training and enhanced time management skills, or by adding a fun test-like connection to reduce the test-anxiety mindset.
