Abstract

Luxury has never faded out ever since it came into being in Europe centuries ago. Even today it is still playing a dominant role in the international markets as well as in the social life. How did it survive and thrive in Europe? What did luxury as a cultural code signify at different phases of the European History? What kind of role will it play in the post-modern society? This essay thus is intended to explore the evolution of luxury in relation to European history and unveil its cultural significance therein.
