Abstract

There are two prepositions in Qiyang dialect:”Dai” and “Dao”.They are opposite and neutral in form and meaning. Through the investigation of linguistic facts, it is found that “Dai” has objective non causative meaning, indicating “existence”; and “Dao” has subjective causative meaning, indicating “direction”. The reason may be that the strength of the motion feature of predicate verbs restricts the choice of “Dai” and “Dao”.
