Abstract

With the intensification of environmental pollution issues, cultivating waste sorting awareness and environmental protection consciousness has become a crucial global concern. Traditional environmental protection education models lack interactivity, making it difficult to stimulate learners’ initiative and practical abilities. To address this, our research team developed an environmental protection education system based on virtual reality (VR) technology. This system aims to enhance players’ environmental awareness and waste sorting capabilities through immersive experiences. Developed using the Unity engine, combined with Blender for 3D modeling and OVRInput for VR interaction control, the system constructs multiple scenes such as factories, parks, schools, and quiz rooms. It supports interactive functions like VR first-person roaming, object picking and placing, waste sorting detection, and score feedback. Additionally, the quiz room provides environmental protection knowledge tests and video learning, enabling players to acquire environmental knowledge naturally during gameplay.
