Abstract

This paper focuses on the innovative dissemination of Dongguan cultural IPs through short-video platforms, exploring the dual pathways of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) revitalization and technology empowerment. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the study delineates the characteristics of three major categories of Dongguan cultural IPs: ICH inheritance, folk festivals, and modern cultural and creative products. It compares the rapid iteration model of the trendy toy IP, which leverages industrial support to nurture culture, with the gradual accumulation model of the agarwood IP, driven by cultural essence to foster industry growth. The analysis reveals that ICH revitalization requires a balance between cultural authenticity and dissemination adaptability, while technology empowerment constructs a three-tier dissemination system through technologies such as AR/VR and blockchain. The study proposes three-tier optimization strategies encompassing content, industry, and ecosystem layers, along with a mechanism for youth participation. It underscores the significance of collaboration among the government, enterprises, and the public in achieving a win-win scenario for cultural preservation and industrial upgrading, providing a practical paradigm for the digital transformation of local cultures.
