- Abstract
The quadrangle has a long history and the most extensive distribution in Chinese folk houses. It is the typical form of the Han folk dwellings. It is inseparable from the cultural infiltration of ancient Chinese Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism. At present, the Beijing quadrangle and the Shanxi courtyard in the north have become important references for the study of courtyard houses in northern China. Similarly, in the south of Fujian, Sichuan, Yunnan and other places, there are unique courtyard buildings adapted to the local geographical climate. All these provide an important example for studying the evolution of quadrangle dwellings
