- Abstract
SMK MUTU (MUTU VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL), which is under the auspices of Persyarikatan Muhammadiyah, has been chosen as a learning center aiming to produce competent graduates who display Islamic values. This aim cannot be separated from the philosophy, goals, processes, and human resources. Therefore, the presence of a leader with high ability, competence, and integrity to achieve the expected goal is paramount. The profile of this school shows that excellent leadership skills have been demonstrated in the school, proven by the achievement of the school as being a national referral school. To strengthen the uniqueness of the research on leadership styles at SMK MUTU, a description of the history of the school development along with its leadership dynamics since it established in 1994, is provided. The history is categorized into four important phases, namely the pioneering phase, coordination phase, integration phase, and innovation phase. The results of this study may be adapted as one of the leadership styles implemented in schools under the auspices of Persyarikatan Muhammadiyah in Indonesia. In addition, the results of this study provide theoretical contributions to science development in the area of Human Resource Management, especially the MSG leadership style applied by the school principal. The MSG leadership style has a unique strategy to transform the school from a market follower position into a professional market leader with three indicators, namely accommodative, familial, and spiritual.
