Abstract

Speaking of reading is talking about an activity performed by humans in the form of indirect communication, where characters receive information through the writing system. As society becomes more modern, as technology explodes, this activity becomes more important. It helps people update information as quickly as possible, proactively respond to specific situations, and also helps people achieve personal and collective goals effectively. UNESCO also highly appreciates the role of reading in human and social development in the 21st century. That requires educational programs of countries around the world to focus on training this skill for learners. The 2018 general education program is implemented to meet modern educational trends. Reading is also one of the skills implemented in an innovative direction. That change is reflected in the design of content, some adjustments in teaching organization, testing and evaluation methods and some activities so that pupils’ learning is not only limited to school but can also be applied to life. In that context, this article focuses on evaluating the content of the reading skills teaching program and proposes some measures to develop reading culture for high school pupils.
