Abstract

This study examines the current situation of accessing and using AI tools in teaching and learning History among high school teachers in the Mekong Delta (ĐBSCL). A mixed-methods approach was employed, including a survey of 251 teachers and in-depth interviews with 10 teachers and 6 students. The findings indicate that most teachers hold positive perceptions and are willing to incorporate AI, while students show clear interest. The most commonly used tools are ChatGPT, Gemini, and Canva AI, primarily for searching materials, generating questions, and preparing lessons. Although AI is considered capable of innovating teaching methods and supporting instructional design, its actual level of application remains limited. Key constraints include insufficient technological infrastructure, uneven digital competencies among teachers, concerns about the accuracy of AI-generated content, and the risk of student overreliance. The study proposes four main solutions: (1) strengthening intensive training programs for teachers; (2) developing official educational AI platforms aligned with the 2018 General Education Curriculum; (3) investing in school facilities, particularly in rural areas; and (4) issuing financial support policies and usage guidelines. Overall, the results affirm the potential of AI in History teaching in the Mekong Delta, while emphasizing the need for coordinated implementation in training, infrastructure development, and policy to enhance the effectiveness of AI integration.
