- Abstract
Digital transformation is placing new demands on History teacher education in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam. While this process offers considerable opportunities to innovate teaching and learning practices, it continues to face substantial obstacles, including inconsistencies in technological infrastructure, disparities in digital competencies among lecturers and students, and the limited availability of digital learning resources that are appropriate to local contexts. In practice, there remains a lack of in-depth empirical research that specifically examines digital transformation in History teacher education in this region, particularly studies that simultaneously consider the combined influence of infrastructure conditions, digital skills, and localized digital resources on implementation outcomes.
This study was carried out at several teacher training institutions in the Mekong Delta, involving lecturers and pre-service teachers specializing in History. Data were collected through the analysis of policy documents and current training curricula, together with field-based surveys using questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. The findings reveal three major groups of challenges: the lack of consistency in technical infrastructure, limitations in the effective pedagogical use of digital technologies among both lecturers and students, and the shortage of digital learning resources that reflect local historical and cultural contexts. On the basis of these results, the study proposes a set of practical measures, including strengthening infrastructure investment, improving digital competencies through targeted training, and promoting the development of locally contextualized digital learning materials. The main contribution of the study lies in its region-specific perspective and its emphasis on the role of culturally and historically relevant digital resources in enhancing the effectiveness of digital transformation in teacher education.
