Abstract

The art of Hát Bội is a precious cultural heritage passed down by our ancestors, serving the spiritual and religious life of the people in the Southern region. Today, with the emergence of various modern forms of entertainment, the rapid development of information and communication technology—especially within the digital environment—traditional art forms are facing a crisis.

The art of Hát Bội, a valuable national cultural heritage, is confronted with many challenges: a decline in audience interest, a lack of successors, underdeveloped archiving technologies, and ineffective communication strategies. Ho Chi Minh City Hát Bội Theatre, with its mission of bringing the breath of traditional culture to the public, is making efforts to find new directions and open opportunities for the development of Hát Bội.

The digital environment offers many opportunities to preserve and promote Hát Bội. The article “Preserving and Promoting Hát Bội in the Digital Environment in Ho Chi Minh City” adopts an interdisciplinary research approach—combining Culture, History, and Performing Arts—to analyze the potential and current application of digital technology in the preservation and promotion of Hát Bội in Ho Chi Minh City.

From there, it proposes strategic solutions to take advantage of the digital environment to preserve its core values, creatively integrate Industry 4.0 technologies into artistic elements, and enhance public accessibility and engagement.
