Abstract

The revolution of science, technology, and communication in the 21st century requires individuals to have appropriate decision-making skills. This study aims to systematically examine the approaches, models, and learning strategies used to develop decision-making skills in elementary education; analyze the relevance of decision-making skills as life skills in the 21st century; and synthesize the literature findings for the development of elementary education policies and practices that are adaptive to the needs of the 21st century. This study uses the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach through four stages, namely identifying research questions, collecting literature, selecting, and synthesizing data. The results of this study show that decision-making skills are essential competencies that need to be developed since in elementary education. The use of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) learning strategies, the application of scaffolding, and the creation of a collaborative and reflective learning environment have proven to be effective in improving these skills. The development of decision-making skills is closely related to critical thinking, collaboration, and social communication skills. Therefore, continuous efforts from educators and policymakers are needed to develop learning approaches that are contextual, innovative, and oriented toward strengthening decision-making from an early age.
