Abstract

This study aims to develop a thematic instructional module to enhance primary students’ critical thinking skills through a Collaborative Critical Inquiry approach integrated with character education. The module was designed based on a synthesis of conceptual and empirical literature using a comprehensive literature review methodology. Data were obtained from indexed journals, academic books, and education policy documents published between 2020 and 2024, selected for their relevance to inquiry-based learning, collaboration, and character education. Thematic analysis was conducted in three stages: focus identification, pedagogical categorization, and synthesis of design principles. The findings highlight the implementation challenges of critical thinking instruction in primary schools and the need for practical, contextually relevant teaching resources. The developed module comprises thematic units that include learning objectives, inquiry activities, collaborative discussions, reflection tasks, student worksheets, teacher guides, and assessment rubrics. Character values are explicitly embedded through the “Seven Habits of Great Indonesian Children,” such as responsibility, cooperation, and environmental awareness. Each learning activity is designed to cultivate these values through active and reflective experiences. The module holds potential as a practical contribution to providing innovative teaching tools that support students’ cognitive and affective development in an integrated manner and is ready for expert validation and classroom testing.
