Abstract

Limited technological infrastructure, including digital devices and internet connectivity, poses a major barrier to the optimal use of digital media for literacy and numeracy instruction in primary schools, particularly in remote areas. This situation leads to disparities in access and technological understanding among students. This study aims to describe the use of digital media in supporting literacy and numeracy learning among primary school students in Gangga Island, West Likupang, North Minahasa, North Sulawesi, Indonesia. A qualitative method was employed, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model, involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that digital media has a significant positive impact on students’ learning motivation, access to diverse learning materials, and the interactivity of literacy and numeracy instruction. The novelty of this study lies in its focus on a remote area with limited infrastructure, addressing a research gap concerning the use of technology in geographically and resource-constrained contexts. In conclusion, while digital media holds substantial potential to enhance learning quality, its effective and equitable implementation requires improved facilities and teacher capacity development.
