- Abstract
Generation Z today faces a major challenge in building a strong self-identity and character amid the rapid flow of digital information, social pressures, and uncertainty about the future. Strengthening character strengths is an important foundation in forming a resilient, empathetic, and meaningful generation. This study aims to describe the picture of the self dimension (A.W.E.C.) and its relationship with strengthening character strengths in Generation Z. This study uses a descriptive quantitative approach involving 1125 consisting of 500 males and 625 females of Generation Z students spread across South Sulawesi. The instrument used by the Self-Consciousness Scale (SCS) developed by Fenigstein, Scheier, & Buss (1975), self-worth is measured through a subscale of self-esteem from the Self-Description Questionnaire III by Marsh & O’Neill (1984). self-esteem, used the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) from Rosenberg (1965). Self-care uses the Self-Care Practices Scale (SCPS) by Slonim et al. (2015) and character strengths are measured with the valid and reliable VIA Inventory of Strengths for Youth (VIA-Youth) developed by Peterson & Seligman (2004). Data analysis used descriptive statistics and correlations to see trends and patterns of relationships between variables using the JASP application. The results show that Generation Z has a high level of self-awareness and self-care, which is significantly positively correlated with character strengths such as empathy, emotional toughness, and self-control. Meanwhile, self-worth and self-esteem show a close relationship with character strengths such as optimism, confidence, and personal integrity. These findings confirm that character strengthening in Generation Z can start from within, through the development of healthy and integrated self dimensions. The A.W.E.C.-based approach can be used as a basis for the development of character intervention programs to form a mentally strong and positive character generation.
