Re-examine the Strategy of the Unrelated Technology Diversification—The Perspective of Innovative Ecosystems

How does unrelevant technology diversification drive corporate sales growth? This paper used the data of Chinese auto manufacturing companies from 1999 to 2019 to examine the coupling effect between the innovation ecosystem created by unrelated diversification and the company’s core technological innovation and marketing investment. The results show that:exploratory and unrelated diversified innovation ecosystem cannot directly increase firm growth, but it can actively cooperate with the core technology innovation and the marketing investment. The exploitative and unrelated diversified innovation ecosystem can directly promote firm growth, but it is difficult to form a coupling effect with core technological innovation and marketing investment.
