- Abstract
This paper explores the influence of Wei-Jin literature on Lu Xun’s fictional works. The pessimistic and melancholic tone of “literature of turbulent times” during the Wei-Jin period, coupled with literati’s practice of seeking solace in wine to evade reality, resonated profoundly with Lu Xun’s own turbulent era and personal experiences, shaping his distinctive character and literary orientation. The article focuses on analyzing the “wine” motif in Lu Xun’s fiction, such as in works like “At the Wine Shop” and “The Lonely One,” where characters drown their sorrows in alcohol and escape reality, revealing spiritual dilemmas and modes of resistance similar to those of Wei-Jin literati. Simultaneously, the style of Lu Xun’s fiction inherits the melancholy grandeur and sense of solitude characteristic of Wei-Jin literature, permeating his works with profound tragic overtones and loneliness. Research indicates that through his literary creations, Lu Xun not only criticized the nation’s inherent weaknesses but also perpetuated and advanced the spiritual legacy of Wei-Jin literature.
