The Faculty of Islamic Studies, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta, Central Java, Indonesia, hosts the International Conference on Islamic and Muhammadiyah Studies (ICIMS) 2023. The Faculty organized a virtual conference, which took place on January 11–12, 2023. Muhammadiyah prioritizes its Da’wah (proclaiming the message of Islam) as an intellectual and social reformation in all spheres, including Islamic theology and social reform. Muhammadiyah will be looked to for leadership in a variety of spheres (economics, politics, society, culture, religion, and science) so long as it is consistent with the globally Islamic intellectual demand of the era of industrial revolution 4.0.

The International Conference on Islamic Studies 2023 (ICIMS 2023) is a yearly international conference that focuses on Quranic and Tafsir studies, Islamic education, Islamic economics, and social humanity. These are very important issues that are often covered in a variety of different seminar settings. ICIMS 2023 is held under the theme “Strengthening Religious Values in a Competitive Era: The Role of Islamic and Muhammadiyah Studies”.

The goals of the ICIMS 2023 conference are to foster a culture of research in the fields of Islamic scholarship and Muhammadiyah studies, to determine the role that Muhammadiyah plays as an Islamic movement in the realms of science and global humanity and to investigate Islamic and Muhammadiyah scientific discourse and research in order for it to be disseminated through publications that adhere to international standards.

In this international conference, all academicians, instructors, and students who participated in the conference were given the opportunity to express and share their thoughts and ideas through the writing and presentation of articles that were related to the focus and scope of the conference. Finally, we would like to express our gratitude to the members of the ICIMS 2023 committees for their assistance and contribution during the conference and for making the conference a success. In addition, we would like to use this opportunity to extend our thanks to all of the vice deans, heads of study programs, the keynote speakers, and the chair of the conference for their hard work in ensuring the overall success of this conference. Last but not least, we hope that this conference will provide attendees with a fruitful forum in which to articulate their thoughts and experiences.
