Abstract

Language was never only a tool people used to communicate but also a reflection of a nation’s thinking mode and cultural values. Due to the differences in the speakers’ perceptions, the phonetics, grammatical rules, and morphology all differ. This article is concerned with the influence of a culture on a language, making comparisons between English, Chinese, and Russian. Based on the use of family titles, greeting phrases, and pronouns to examine the three countries’ perceptual differences in gender, cordiality, and conscience of superiority and inferiority.
