Abstract

Digital technology offers a lot of new applications which are available to support learning activities and improve students’ motivation. The objectives of this experimental research were to compare the implementation of Padlet and Jamboard as e-learning applications toward students’ motivation in learning English at SMA N 3 Padang. The population of this research was 353 students at grade ten of SMAN 3 Padang in the 2021/2022 academic year. The samples, which were selected using cluster random sampling, were categorized as the experimental class and control class. The experimental class was taught by using Padlet application and the control class was taught by using Jamboard application. The data were collected through the questionnaire of motivation. Independent sample t test formula was used to investigate whether there is significant difference between the experimental class and the control class on students’ motivation. The results of the research found that sig.2 tailed (0.422) is higher than the significance alpha 0.05. It means that Ho is accepted because sig. > 0.05. It is 0, 422 > 0.05. It can be concluded that there is no significant difference between Padlet and Jamboard, both of applications are equally and beneficial to boost students’ motivation in learning English. Thus, the teacher is suggested to apply both applications and may use them interchangeably to enhance students’ motivation.
