First, please allow us to extend our warmest greetings and welcome to you all to the International Conference on Social Science and Character Educations (ICoSSCE-2019). The conference is held by the Graduate School, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta in Yogyakarta, Indonesia on September 28-29, 2019 with the conference theme: “The Future of Social Studies Education in Rise of Conservatism, Populism, and Nationalism”.

The rise of conservativism, populism and nationalism – through promoting more community-centric social goals, exclusive values, religious radicalism, strong patriotism and economic protectionism – have been widespread across societies in the today globalized world. The move has showed the change of the pendulum from the more liberal-individual, democratic, multicultural, tolerant and inclusive values; which had been once admired and pursued by left-centered politicians, civil society supporters as well as teachers and educators especially in the field of Social Studies Education (SSE).

We do hope that this conferences proceeding can enrich our understanding of the Social Science Education, Social Studies, Moral, and Character for Sustainable Development as well as become a meeting point for academics, practitioners and observers in education, character education and social sciences.

We would like to thank to all parties who helped running this program. Hopefully, all the time and efforts we have spent for these two conferences may be beneficial and impactful for the future.
