Abstract

Economic sustainability is vital in contexts of ecological decay and social inequity. Incorporating new concepts from the green economy permits the sustainable and resilient participation of developing countries in intervention programs. Tajikistan, a Central Asian country with significant challenges has seen very limited engagement among the global research community focused on the green economy in spite of Tajikistan’s commitment to SDG initiatives as part of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Agenda 2030. This research employs a bibliometric analysis of 5,790 research documents using Scopus and Web of Science, as of July 2025. Using Bibliometrix and VOSviewer mapping tools, it provides an overview of publication growth, key research contributors, thematic clusters of literature, and collaborative engagement between countries and institutions around the world. The results indicate rapid growth in global economic sustainability research since 2020 dominated by authors and institutions in China. Three key clusters of research emerged: sustainable development, green economy, and policy aspects around management of natural resources. Tajikistan’s research output remains low, and there was limited engagement in the research and scholarly community globally. The findings provide clear evidence of need for more robust research capacity and directed policies to address research opportunities for Tajikistan, and for economic sustainability research to contribute positively to Tajikistan’s green development goals within the context of wider global opportunities.
