Abstract

Human is witnessing economic fluctuations, geopolitical tensions and trade wars. This makes the disruption of the global supply chain more prolonged and severe. Therefore, businesses need to find new solutions for their supply chain, more safe and sustainable. Strengthening collaboration is one of the shifting trends that helps businesses take advantage of each other's resources and knowledge to overcome current challenges. Thus, we asked the questions: if businesses strengthen trust in collaboration, promote information technology investment, will it increase collaboration between partners in the supply chain? thereby building collaborative advantage and improving firm performance? Therefore, the study’s objective was to explore the relationship among of trust, information technology, collaborative advantage and supply chain collaboration and firm performance. Data were collected through a survey of 257 garment companies in Vietnam, which is a major manufacturing and export sector in Vietnam. The quantitative analysis technique used is Smart PLS 3.0. In addition, the study also conducted one-on-one interviews with 4 experts in the garment industry to adjust the scale to suit the Vietnamese market. The results have highlighted that trust significantly affects supply chain collaboration and firm performance, while information technology only affects supply chain collaboration, with no statistical significance in the relationship with firm performance. Moreover, the empirical evidences strongly support the role of supply chain collaboration on collaborative advantage and firm performance. Ultimately, collaborative advantage affects firm performance. The results have profound implications for Vietnamese garment companies, aiming to implement collaborative strategies in the supply chain, overcoming current difficulties and challenges.
