Proceedings of the Fifth International Seminar on English Language and Teaching (ISELT 2017)

The 5th International Seminar on English Language and Teaching (ISELT) 2017 was held by English Departement, Faculty of Languages and Arts of Universitas Negeri Padang on May 9-10, 2017 at Pangeran Beach Hotel Padang. This international seminar aims at identifying, presenting and discussing the challenges and opportunities of multi-dimensional English language teaching in changing contexts. In addition, it is to be hoped that the seminar will also consider ways of solving the problems of EFL learning in these new contexts, which would be valuable for improving EFL programs and practices. It provides opportunities for the delegates to exchange new ideas and application of the experiences, to create research relations and to find global partners for future collaboration. It is not merely for Indonesian context only, but all around the globe.

The theme of 5th ISELT 2017 was "Challenges and Opportunities in Multi-dimensional English Language Teaching in Changing EFL contexts". It was targeted for educators, policy makers, researchers, academics, principals, supervisors, graduate students, practitioners, academics, professionals and teachers.

There were 162 papers submitted from various topics including Assessment and Evaluation, EFL Learning Material Development, English for Young Learners, English in Various Contexts, English Language Research, English Literature Learning and Teaching, Intercultural and Interlingual English Communication, Teaching English in ASEAN Contexts, Translation in EFL Contexts presented in the seminar. Then, 42 papers were accepted for publication through a strict double blind peer-reviewed process. Each paper in this proceeding was reviewed by two reviewers.

We would like to thank the organizing committee and the members of reviewers for their kind assistances in reviewing the papers. We would also like to extend our best gratitude to Governor of West Sumatra, Prof. Dr. Irwan Prayitno, Psi., M.Sc.; Rector of Universitas Negeri Padang, Prof. Ganefri, Ph.D.; Dean of Faculty of Languages and Arts, Prof. Dr. M. Zaim, M.Hum. for the tremendous support.

Furthermore, we would like to thank Prof. Rod Ellis (New Zealand), Dr. Willy A. Renandya (Singapore), Prof. Madya Abdul Ghani Abu (Malaysia), Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu (Vietnam), Dr. Dhita Hapsarani, M.Hum. This publication is dedicated to the memory of the late Professor Rusdi Thaib at English Department of Universitas Negeri Padang, as the Chairperson of this international Seminar who passed away on the second day of the seminar. We are particularly grateful to our staff members, for their enormous support, and to the reviewers, who share their valuable time and expertise to evaluate all manuscripts submitted to this issue.
