Abstract

Mental health issues have become increasingly prevalent in today’s fast-paced and stressful society, affecting individuals across all age groups. In response, music therapy has gained widespread recognition as an effective and accessible intervention to support emotional well-being and alleviate psychological distress. This paper explores the effectiveness and mechanisms of music therapy in dealing with stress, anxiety, and depression. The research adopts a systematic review approach, summarizing and analyzing eight relevant papers. Both empirical studies and other review-type literature are included. Literature was retrieved from China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), BioMed Central (BMC), Wiley Online Library, PubMed, Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect. Across multiple populations and vocations, music therapy can lower stress, anxiety, and depression. Different forms of music therapy have consistently demonstrated positive effects. As a mental health intervention, music therapy has significant universality and potential. For future research, it is necessary to expand sample sizes, conduct a longitudinal study, and pay more attention to understudied groups, such as younger children, to enhance the reliability of the results.
