Abstract

The Compulsory Education Chinese Curriculum Standards (2022 Edition) proposes four key aspects of core attainment of Chinese: cultural confidence, language application, thinking abilities, and aesthetic creation. New definitions and requirements for the application of Chinese character instruction in the Chinese curriculum are also provided within both the curriculum objectives and content. As the earliest Chinese dictionary that systematically analyzes Chinese character forms and investigates etymological origins, Shuo Wen Jie Zi is considered to possess unique value and practical functions in Chinese language teaching. In accordance with the requirements of the new curriculum standards, this paper explores the functions of Shuo Wen Jie Zi in Chinese cultural inheritance, comprehension of vocabulary, and thinking training. In addition, teaching approaches are proposed based on exploring the methods of literacy and clarifying the rules of Chinese character formation, as well as tracing the evolution of Chinese characters and so on, aiming to provide theoretical support and practical reference for Chinese language teaching. The study found that using Shuo Wen Jie Zi to analyze the structure of Chinese characters can help students quickly recognize and memorize them, which is beneficial for Chinese teaching.
