Abstract

Quadratic form, as a core component of linear algebra, has long been plagued by traditional teaching approaches that “emphasize theory over application” and create a disconnect between learning and practice, which contradicts the cultivation objectives of applied talents in emerging engineering education. Guided by the OBE (Outcome-Based Education) philosophy and grounded in the needs of traffic engineering majors, this paper takes the “Quadratic Form” section as its research object and systematically reconstructs the teaching model from five dimensions: teaching philosophy, competency objectives, teaching content, teaching methodology, and evaluation system. Traffic engineering case, such as traffic flow optimization is embedded to strengthen the connection between mathematical knowledge and professional applications. Practice demonstrates that this transformative model effectively enhances students’ mathematical application abilities and professional competencies, resolves the pain points of traditional teaching, achieves a fundamental shift “from knowledge delivery to competency achievement,” and provides specific practical references and replicable paradigms for OBE reform of linear algebra courses in traffic engineering majors.
