Abstract

The study aimed to find out the steps in developing Flashcard Media to decrease reading difficulties and the feasibility of the Flashcards Media in reducing the reading difficulties of the first-grade elementary school students. The current study was a research and development using qualitative descriptive analysis to analyze the data in the form of responses, input, expert advice and trials, suggestions, and comments obtained from teachers and students, while the quantitative descriptive analysis used the Likert scale of 1-4 to analyze the responses from media expert, material expert, learning expert, and teachers. The data collection instruments were observation sheets, tests (pre-test and post-test), documentation, questionnaire sheets, and students’ response sheets. The researchers analyzed the problems associated with students who have reading difficulty in elementary school so that the media produced was in accordance with the need. The first step was doing observations at Muhammadiyah Karangturi Elementary School to analyze problems which appeared in the classroom. The problem in this study originated from the lack of learning media availability to support the students' reading activities. In the process of retrieving the data, the researchers conducted observations and interviews with the first-grade teachers of Muhammadiyah Karangturi Elementary School. The assessment obtained from media experts, material experts, and learning experts are in Good category; the small group obtained Good category; the large group trial obtained Very Good category, and the score of the pre-test and the post-test were in Very Good category. The study concluded that flashcards are feasible to be implemented to reduce reading difficulties in first-grade elementary school students.
