Abstract
The ultimate purpose of learning a foreign language is to acquaint the learners with the culture of the target language and enhance the learners' cross-cultural communication competence. On the basis of analysis of the wide practice of inputting only Western cultures and severe absence of Chinese culture in college English teaching, this paper aims to analyze the necessity and significance of integrating traditional Chinese culture into college English teaching and it holds that English teachers should take effective measures to broaden students cultural visions and cultivate their consciousness of cross-cultural communication. Meanwhile, the paper also provides several suggestions of improving the present situation so as to improve the quality and efficiency of college English teaching.
