Abstract

In today’s globalised world, cross-cultural education has become a crucial factor in cultivating global citizenship and fostering successful international cooperation. However, linguistic barriers, cultural divides, shortages of teaching resources, and unequal resource distribution severely constrain the efficiency and accessibility of artificial intelligence. The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence technology presents unprecedented opportunities and solutions to address these challenges. Integrating AI with TESOL education significantly enhances educational accessibility, optimises resource allocation, and improves teaching efficiency. This report explores the objectives, developmental issues, role of AI, and future recommendations for AI in cross-cultural TESOL teaching. This analysis highlights the importance of cross-cultural education, current developmental challenges, and AI’s potential to support cross-cultural teaching within TESOL. The following recommendations are proposed: developing multimodal AI systems, deepening cultural modelling and reasoning capabilities, innovating human-AI collaborative models, optimising localised AI education, establishing cross-cultural sensitivity metrics, and exploring blended teaching approaches combining teacher-led instruction with AI assistance.
