Current Library and Information Science Education and Job Market’s Requirements in Mainland China

Abstract

The demand for professional talents in Mainland China’s current library and information job market is closely related to the current education and training of library and information professionals. This study first analyzed the current situation of master’s education of Library and Information Science in Mainland China, and then constructed the core competencies and skills index system for the new library and information professionals in Mainland China. Finally, some suggestions with regards to the future development of Master of Library and Information Science and the improvement of library and information professional competency system are given accordingly.
