Effect of Interactive-Based Instruction on the Science Performance of Grade 6 Learners: A Quasi-Experimental Study

Abstract

This study examined the effect of an interactive-based instructional approach on the science performance of Grade 6 learners at Batuan Elementary School. A quasi-experimental, non-equivalent control group pretest–posttest design was employed involving 50 learners divided into control (n = 25) and experimental (n = 25) groups. The experimental group was exposed to interactive-based instruction incorporating collaborative, hands-on, and game-based activities, while the control group received conventional instruction. Data were collected using a validated 45-item achievement test and analyzed using t-tests and effect size measures. Results revealed significant improvements in both groups; however, the experimental group demonstrated significantly higher posttest scores and mean gain (p < .05), with a large effect size (d = 1.45). Qualitative findings indicated increased engagement, improved conceptual understanding, and positive learning experiences among learners exposed to the interactive approach. The study concludes that interactive-based instruction significantly enhances science performance and recommends its integration into elementary science teaching.
