Abstract

The development of effective learning models to improve the social skills of children with autism remains a significant challenge in special education, particularly due to the limited integration of evidence-based approaches that address both emotional engagement and social interaction. This study aims to develop a Son-Rise Program-based Floor Time learning model to enhance the social skills of children with autism. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the 4D model, which includes the stages of Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. The study was conducted in a special education setting at SLB Negeri Tanjung Selor, involving children with autism, teachers, parents, and expert validators from the fields of special education, child psychology, and language. Data were collected through interviews, observations, expert validation, and pre-test and post-test using the Autism Social Skills Profile (ASSP) instrument. Data analysis was performed using Content Validity Ratio (CVR) to determine validity and Cronbach’s Alpha to assess reliability. The developed model integrates the emotional interaction principles of Floor Time with the unconditional acceptance approach of the Son-Rise Program to create a structured and responsive learning environment. The findings indicate that the model is valid, feasible, and effective in improving the social skills of children with autism, as reflected in significant improvements in eye contact, greeting, sharing, turn-taking, and emotional expression. Furthermore, the model is considered practical and adaptable for implementation in classroom settings. In conclusion, the Son-Rise Program-based Floor Time learning model offers a comprehensive and effective approach to enhancing social skills in children with autism and contributes to the development of evidence-based practices in special education.
