- Abstract
The Palu River is a main river in Central Sulawesi Province. It supports the social and economic activities of the community, such as irrigation, fisheries, and raw water supply. However, high sedimentation rates in recent years have caused various issues, including riverbed sedimentation, changes in channel morphology, and increased flood risk. This study aims to examine the relationship between river discharge and suspended sediment load. The methodology includes direct field data collection, including river profiles, water levels, flow velocities, and water samples. Measurements were processed to find discharge data, and water samples were tested for Total Suspended Solids (TSS). Correlation and regression analysis methods were used to analyze the relationship between water discharge and sediment concentration. The results indicate a significant relationship between river discharge and suspended sediment load, where an increase in discharge directly leads to a higher volume of sediment transport. This research is expected to provide a basis for more effective watershed management to reduce sedimentation impacts. In addition to its scientific contribution, the direct field measurement and laboratory analysis methods applied in this study offer substantial educational benefits. The dataset and procedures can be utilized as practical teaching materials in hydrology, river engineering, and sediment transport courses to improve students’ competencies in environmental data collection, interpretation, and water-resources problem-solving.
