Abstract

The global ecological crisis according to the anthropocentric world view places humans at the center of life. This crisis demands environmental education that is critical, contextual and holistic and integrates Islamic values into classroom practice. This study aimed to develop, validate, and evaluate the effectiveness of an Islamic-Based Ecopedagogy (IBE) teaching module to enhance students’ pro-environmental attitudes and behaviors. This study was conducted during the 2025/2026 academic year at SMA Al-Azhar Mandiri Palu, involving 216 tenth-grade students and 34 teachers. The module was designed following the ADDIE model; analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Data were collected through expert validation, attitude and behavior-based questionnaires, classroom observations, interviews, pre- and post-tests, also analyzed using descriptive and quantitative methods. Validation results indicated the module was highly feasible with an average score of 3.91. Effectiveness testing showed a high N-Gain of 0.70 for students’ pro-environmental attitudes and a moderate N-Gain of 0.49 for pro-environmental behaviors. The results demon-strate that integrating Islamic principles such as khalīfah (stewardship), amanah (responsibility), and mīzān (balance) within ecopedagogical practices effectively fosters moral awareness and ecological responsibility. Project-based activities including school gardening, organic waste management, and sustainability campaigns encouraged students to translate Islamic ethical values into concrete pro-environmental actions. These findings confirm that integrating Islamic values into ecopedagogy provides a feasible and effective approach to strengthening students’ ecological awareness across cognitive, affective, spiritual, and practical domains, contributing to the advancement of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).
