Abstract

Under the guidance of the concept of “People’s City”, there is an urgent need for applied undergraduate education to integrate regional cultural characteristics into practical teaching. Drawing upon Comprehensive-perspective learning theory and the “Environment-Process-Outcome” framework, this paper constructs an assessment rubric for the learning effectiveness of regional cultural aesthetic education, comprising 7 practice elements (Cultural Cognition, Environmental Embodiment, Curriculum Integration, Course Satisfaction, Learning Willingness, Learning Pathways, and Design Practice) and 47 secondary indicators. Empirical research reveals significant overall synergistic effects among the practice elements of aesthetic education. Environmental Embodiment, acting as a cross-dimensional hub, effectively bridges theoretical cognition and Design Practice; together with Learning Pathways, it exerts a highly efficient driving force on Design Practice. Furthermore, Learning Willingness and Learning Pathways mediate the relationship between Cultural Cognition/Environmental Embodiment and Design Practice. Taking the teaching practice of the Environmental Design major at applied undergraduate universities in Shanghai as a case study, this paper proposes practical measures for regional aesthetic education. It aims to provide references for the reform and practice of aesthetic education in applied undergraduate design programs.
