Abstract

Noticing is one of the essential skills for preservice mathematics teachers. Therefore, it is vital to develop these skills so that students are ready to face their future work environment, especially in implementing mathematics learning that promotes mathematical thinking. This study aims to analyze preservice mathematics teachers’ noticing of students’ thinking in probability. The present study employed a qualitative method. The results show that analysis and discussions of classroom videos enabled the preservice mathematics teachers to analyze mathematics lessons and supported them to notice classroom instruction in more pedagogically relevant ways. However, the preservice mathematics teachers still require further work in interpreting and responding the students’ mathematical thinking.
